Race and Rhetoric by Thomas Sowell

» Sowell: Race and Rhetoric » Commentary -- GOPUSA:

"...While many politicians and "leaders" have claimed credit for black progress, no one seems to be willing to take the blame for the retrogressions represented by higher unemployment rates, higher crime rates, and higher rates of imprisonment today. Or for the disintegration of the black family, which survived centuries of slavery and generations of government-imposed discrimination in the Jim Crow era, but began coming apart in the wake of the expansion of the liberal welfare state and its accompanying social dogmas..."

Hating the "Happy Warrior": a hobby for Leftists

KUDOS to all those courageous Americans who speak truth to power, and are excoriated by Leftist loons---and the Left-controlled mass media---for daring to speak it.  Andrew Breitbart was HATED by Progressive lemmings, by radical socialists (commies), by poverty pimps, and by the corrupt Liberal mass media he exposed.  The Happy Warrior will be sorely missed, and America owes a great debt to this patriot---for exposing the corruption and deception that he did, in his short 43 years: despite all the hateful personal attacks and death threats by the "tolerant" Left. He is gone now, but because of his courage and patriotism, a thousand new flowers will bloom in each of his footsteps; and they will carry-on his work.

Sudden passing of a great patriot: You will be missed Andrew!

Rest in Peace, Andrew.
You were an inspiration to Conservatives and investigative journalists everywhere---and you still are. Condolences to your family and friends.

David Cameron Sees the NHS Handwriting on the Wall

The UK's nationalized healthcare system chickens have come home to roost:

(excerpted from)
Why the UK Is Ditching Socialized Medicine
Posted by Bio ↓ on Feb 20th, 2012
"There is more than a little irony attached to the Obama administration’s determination to pursue socialist, EU-style “solutions” to America’s problems, even as the European Union is coming to grips with the bitter realities such socialism produces. And while Greece and its financial problems receive some media coverage in the United States, there is a much bigger story flying under the mainstream media radar: in Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron has introduced a bill seeking to partially privatize the National Health Service (NHS). Why? Because the British government is “hoping to avoid a Greek-style financial meltdown.
[...]
Cameron
refuses to back down, insisting there’s too much bureaucracy in the system, and that it interferes with patient care. “If we were as good at treating cancer as the average European country, we would save 5,000 lives a year,” he contended. He further noted that reform will create “a fair system that stops the private sector from picking off contracts and the public sector from providing an inflexible monopoly.” Yet he insisted that “health care for all, free at the point of use, unrelated to the ability to pay” will remain the animating features of the system..."

Immigration Enforcement does not equate to "hate"

A great clip taking an honest look at the illegal alien problem in America.  The first step in solving the problem is to quit referring to these economic invaders as either "undocumented" or "immigrants."  Is a drug dealer "slinging rock" out on the streets referred to as an "undocumented pharmacist"?  Is a home-invader referred to as an "undocumented guest"?  Are European or Japanese tourists in the US referred to as "temporary immigrants"?

For every personal anecdote about a hard-working, friendly neighbor who happens to be in the country ILLEGALLY, there are numerous personal anecdotes from victims of property crimes and physical injury crimes committed by an illegal alien.

Escaped Slaves from the Democratic Party Plantation Speak Out

For decades, the Democratic Party has fooled the "black community" in America into believing the myth that Democrats represent THEIR best interests; despite all the historical facts to the contrary. In response, over 90% of black voters in any election over the last 30 years have blindly cast their ballot for Democratic Party candidates.

In order to maintain their hold on black voters, the Democratic Party therefore keeps racial identity politics, class envy, the ghetto mindset of  black "victimhood"---and government dependency---alive and well.  In reality, it is neither "the white man" or "the Tea Party" or "white Republicans" that are keep their foot on the necks of black Americans:  it is the "rent-seeking" Democratic Party.

Uncle Ted Sends Piers to Bed

When it comes to arguing against 2nd Amendment rights, never invite Ted Nugent to the debate.  He is THE celebrity advocate for armed self-defense and concealed weapon permits; and the phrase "political correctness" is not in his vocabulary. America needs a lot more outspoken, passionate, "damn yankee" patriots like The Nuge.

Dr Thomas Sowell Hits another Home Run with "Education and Disparity"

some excertps from:

Sowell: Education and Disparity
By Thomas Sowell

One of the ways of trying to reduce the vast disparities in economic success, which are common in countries around the world, is by making higher education more widely available, even for people without the money to pay for it.
This can be both a generous investment and a wise investment for a society to make. But, depending on how it is done, it can also be a foolish and even dangerous investment, as many societies around the world have learned the hard way.
[...]
But that is not even half the story. In countries around the world, people with credentials but no marketable skills have been a major source of political turmoil, social polarization and ideologically driven violence, sometimes escalating into civil war.
People with degrees in soft subjects, which impart neither skills nor a realistic understanding of the world, have been the driving forces behind many extremist movements with disastrous consequences.

Ted Nugent: One Patriotic "Damn Yankee"

Ted "the Nuge" Nugent, is an avid sportsman, rock star, and patriot. He tells it like it is in this clip about the importance of the 2nd Amendment---as "the right" to self-defense.

Correcting America's "Social Problems" from the Ground UP

A rousing and (hopefully) inspirational speech by the Mayor of Philadelphia discussing a destructive "cultural cancer" that is prevalent in the "black community" (but definitely not exclusive to the "black community"): the Liberal erasure of individual responsibility and traditional morality---in the name of "social progress."

Green Eggs and Scams

I do not like this Uncle Sam,
I do not like his health care scam.

I do not like these dirty crooks,
or how they lie and cook the books.

I do not like when Congress steals,
I do not like their secret deals.

I do not like this Speaker Nan ...

I do not like this 'YES, WE CAN'.

I do not like this spending spree---
I'm smart; I know that nothing's "free."

I do not like your smug replies,
when I complain about your lies.

I do not like this kind of "hope."
I do not like it. nope, nope, nope!

What is the legitimate role of government in America?

The social and political conflict taking place in America is based in two very diverse concepts of the legitimate role of government. In order to gain a rational perspective on the "legitimacy" question, one should first take a good look at the purpose of government in general.

In a nutshell, "government" is the system of political authority that exists within a sovereign state: to establish the rights and responsibilities of citizens; to manage the common resources of the state; and to protect the citizenry from foreign and domestic threat (to life, limb, and property). Government accomplishes these functions by passing and enforcing laws, and by levying taxes to pay for services.

In a "free society", government derives its legitimate authority to do those things by means of an underlying social contract with The People who are being governed.

When discussing "social contract" within the context of "government", most socio-political philosophies use the hypothetical "state of nature" as their starting point:

Living in the "state of nature" is an imaginary situation whereby every "individual" has unlimited "natural" freedoms, and the "right to all things." In such a world, the individual’s freedom to act upon his own self-interests is constrained only by his or her personal power, his or her individual conscience---and by the laws of Nature.

In the state of nature there is no structured social order, because there's no universal code of conduct between individuals---nor any recognized authority to enforce such a code. Everyone is free to exercise their natural right to do or to have anything they want---regardless of any prior claim---and humanity remains in a perpetual state of violence and Anarchy.

Eventually, rational individuals come to realize that it is in their best self-interest to "voluntarily associate" and cede some of their "natural rights", as long as others agree to do the same ("I will not act on my natural right to harm you, kill you, or take your property, if you agree to do the same). In time, the natural state gives way to the formation of society that then institutes authoritative bodies to promote and enforce social contracts.

Following America's War for Independence, the social contract between legitimate government authority and peaceful citizen compliance was codified in the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The underlying social contract states that The People agree to peacefully comply with the rule of (Constitutional) law---as long as their elected government abides by its Constitutional limits of authority, and performs its defined responsibilities.

"A constitution is not the act of a government, but of a people constituting a government; and government without a constitution is power without a right. All power exercised over a nation, must have some beginning. It must be either delegated, or assumed. There are not other sources. All delegated power is trust, and all assumed power is usurpation. Time does not alter the nature and quality of either."
~Thomas Paine

Any elected government that overreaches its legitimate authority, or neglects its defined responsibilities, is in violation of that sacred American social compact---our U.S. Constitution; and civil disobedience then becomes a legitimate, patriotic response to their government breeching the contract.
"The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.” ~ Patrick Henry
For Americans, the legitimate role of government was extensively written about by our Founding Fathers, and was written into the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The U.S. Constitution does not grant the Federal Government the authority---or the role---of engineering social change, or orchestrating "social justice" through forced redistribution of national wealth. Those ideas are un-American and destructive to the American social contract.

"When the representative body have lost the confidence of their constituents, when they have notoriously made sale of their most valuable rights, when they have assumed to themselves powers which the people never put into their hands, then, indeed, their continuing in office becomes dangerous to the state, and calls for an exercise of the power of dissolution."
~Thomas Jefferson

"I think that we should be men first, and subjects afterward. It is not so desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right."
~Henry David Thoreau (Civil Disobedience, 1849)

"We cannot, by total reliance on law, escape the duty to judge right and wrong.... There are good laws and there are occasionally bad laws, and it conforms to the highest traditions of a free society to offer resistance to bad laws, and to disobey them."
~Alexander Bickel

"There will never be a really free and enlightened State until the State comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived---and treats him accordingly."
~ Henry David Thoreau

"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."
- Abraham Lincoln

Obama Gets "All Wee-Wee'd Up" on Labor Day

"Let me be clear about this..." ~Barack Obama

Apparently our Harvard-educated President got so "wee-wee'd up" during his Labor Day speech that he felt compelled to stray from his "prepared remarks", in order to deliver some more Obama-slang that will again befuddle most English-speaking people:

"They talk about me like a dog."

["They talk about me like a dog. That's not in my prepared remarks, but it's true." (???)]

Our Leader then provided some hyperbolic remarks concerning the mean "obstructionist" Republicans who oppose his irrational economic proposals.

The ObamaZombies in the audience---who apparently still feel a tingle run up their leg from hearing him speak---laughed, applauded, and cheered at his ridiculous campaign-mode rhetoric concerning the color of the sky and the living habits of fish.

I assume his sycophants would have reacted just as enthusiastically if he'd said the following, instead:

"If I said the sky is green...they'd say 'NO.'
If I said fish live in the trees...they'd say 'NO'."

What our President, and his "useful-idiots", don't seem to grasp is that when a radical ideologue proposes a cure that is worse than the (perceived) disease, then it behooves every rational, patriotic, American to stand-up and debate it.

When Our President proposes massive spending programs that fly in the face of reason---based upon a rational understanding of economics and history---then the appropriate response of thinking Americans is to say "no, let's look at other options"; rather than to simply take another gulp of "progressive" Kool-Aid.

Despite the claims being made by campaigning Obamacrats that Republicans don't have any solutions to the country's current economic problems, Republicans and conservatives been proposing viable solutions all along.

The problem is that the complicit, left-leaning mass media has not been giving Republican solutions the same kind of fawning coverage that they've given (and continue to give) to the Obamacrat Regime.

In order to Reclaim America, we must reclaim our schools

If every school principal gave this speech at the beginning of the next school year, America would be a much better place.

"To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers and against our country.

First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships.

The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity -- your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is American. This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans.

If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial or religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will end all ethnicity-, race- and non-American nationality-based celebrations. They undermine the motto of America, one of its three central values -- e pluribus unum, "from many, one." And this school will be guided by America's values.

This includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on any identities. This includes race, language, religion, sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in a society divided by political correctness.

Your clubs will be based on interests and passions, not blood, ethnic, racial or other physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate narcissism -- an unhealthy preoccupation with the self -- while the purpose of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So we will have clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, carpentry and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interesting in are those based on ethnic, racial or sexual identity, that means that little outside of yourself really interests you.

Second, I am uninterested in whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united America's citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. It is one of the indispensable reasons this country of immigrants has always come to be one country. And if you leave this school without excellent English language skills, I would be remiss in my duty to ensure that you will be prepared to successfully compete in the American job market. We will learn other languages here -- it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English -- but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not your school.

Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect learning's elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in our society dress more formally for Hollywood events than for church or school. These people have their priorities backward. Therefore, there will be a formal dress code at this school.

Fourth, no obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school's property -- whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you can't speak without using the f-word, you can't speak. By obscene language I mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission, plus epithets such as "Nigger," even when used by one black student to address another black, or "bitch," even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time you leave this school, you will be among the few your age to instinctively distinguish between the elevated and the degraded, the holy and the obscene.

Fifth, we will end all self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem will be attained in only one way -- the way people attained it until decided otherwise a generation ago -- by earning it. One immediate consequence is that there will be one valedictorian, not eight.

Sixth, and last, I am reorienting the school toward academics and away from politics and propaganda. No more time will devoted to scaring you about smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom wearing and teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue. There will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a victim because you are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual or not Christian. We will have failed if any one of you graduates this school and does not consider him or herself inordinately lucky -- to be alive and to be an American.

Now, please stand and join me in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of our country. As many of you do not know the words, your teachers will hand them out to you."
